Steve Nash

y a matter of time before he starts freestylin' about how Alvin Gentry can't carry his jock, or how Steve Nash stole his MVP.  A pissed Shaq is a cancerous Shaq, and the best way to deal with him is to remove the tumor before it spreads.

First, check out this, it's super hilarious and well written.  Now, on to the good stuff...

We're less than four hours away from the Blazers and Celtics tipping off in Boston (catch it on ESPN if you don't want to listen to Mike Rice gush over Channing Frye and you love Van Gundy/Jackson as much as I do), so I figured I'd provide a few nuggets of wisdom about what might be the keys to the game for both sides.  Now before you all collectively groan in disgust, let me reassure you that what follows may actually prove insightful, unlike most other "key to tonight's match-up" pieces that simply say score, defend and rebound better than your opponent.  There are a few things that I'm looking for as indicators of successful play by both sides which go much deeper than the usual mundane crap, so bear with me.

rt that night, regardless of position and/or size, and yes, you did just read that correctly.  Steve Nash didn't play that game, but somehow I don't think it would have mattered when it came to speed.  And I'm not just talking about end to end foot speed, either, but about his quickness and ability to move in spurts.  Amare has an extra gear, and when he's running on all cylinders, everyone else is moving in slow motion.

a great playmaker and passer.  The young longhorn has drawn comparisons (favorable and not) to Steve Nash because of his high basketball IQ, selfless nature and silky smooth jump shot that already has NBA range.  Augustin has also proven himself to be a winner and a clutch performer who is unafraid of the spotlight and taking big shots during games.

and score with reckless abandon and total disregard for defense.  I have always been a fan of Steve Nash, and watching him run the Phoenix offense routinely made my jaw drop from amazement and sheer awe of Nash's talent and skills.  I also enjoyed watching him knife through the lane and find his teammates through heavy traffic, and then set them up perfectly with soft touch passes using either hand that remined me of Pete Maravich and John Stockton (truly amazing to watch, Nash singlehandedly raised the bar for point guard play in the NBA).

uncan, who is passionately imploring his teammates to finish strong in the huddle right now.

Wow, Steve Nash just tied it at 115 with a crazy off-balance three pointer in the corner, but Phoenix loses because they let Ginobili dribble the length of the court and get right to the rim and score.  Sorry to interrupt my gushing adulation of Duncan with that game update, but seriously, wow.  This should be a great series, I'm not going to miss a minute, and neither should you.  I don't care if you like basketball or not, just watch it.  This is what the game is all about, and it's on display at the highest level possible.
