LeBron James. It may seem that i'm jumping to conclusions when stating, LeBron James is being overlooked, but hear me out. Over the latter part of the first 40+ games it looked as if Kobe and LeBron were head and shoulders above the rest in the race to MVP, with Kevin Garnett a close but distant third. Yes close but distant! But as of late, there has been this two man race talk with CP3 Mr. Chris Paul (who i might add deserves the press), and the best player in the world....Kobe. While both of these guys are playing out of their minds, Kobe shouldn't even be in the discussion and here's why; LeBron is leading Kobe in FG%, PPG, RPG, APG, and BPG......need I say more?! NO NO and NO!!!
Now on to the real race, CP3 vs. The King. I guess it would't be fair to eliminate Kobe with pure numbers and not do the same for James, so using that logic it would be easy to say Chris Paul is the hands down MVP. CP3 is in a better conference, shooting a higher percentage from the field and from the line, has more steal per game, and is leading the league in assists. On the other hand, James has the edge in points, rebounds, and blocks. BUT, numbers just aren't enough to convince me of a clear cut MVP thus far.......so let's make a vote using my own slanted views.
Now I know the simple fact that the west is a tougher conference is enough to put Chris Paul over the top, but there is something to be said for a guy who is playing with a supporting cast that is average at best! Not to mention that this team has been hurt virtually the whole season and LeBron still finds a way to get it done. Watch these games and become a "witness" to the 5 or 6 great passes that should be highlights but turn into horrible jumpers or missed layups.....blown assists. Also, "witness" the constant offensive stuggles mainly attributed to the fact that the whole team hasn't been together long enough to remember what each other look like. OK enough with the LeBron James love affair, on to Chris Paul. CP3 will go down as the best point guard of this era! Paul is playing in a different dimension and we all are very lucky that we are able to be a part of it. The way Paul controls games is amazing, finally pulling out the potential of a guy who was on the verge of being a bust in Tyson Chandler, and is one of if not the first "pass-first" point guards in years to average 20 and 10. In laymen's terms, Chris Paul is a beast!
So who is the MVP thus far?
I opine that while CP3 is putting the league in a headlock, The King has paid his dues and is my pick for 2007-08 NBA MVP. (I mean if Dirk can win anybody can win right?!)
Peace & Love
